I Accidentally Learned to Code... and Now My Wedding Clients Benefit

A few years ago, if you'd told me I'd be spending my evenings writing code, I'd have laughed and gone back to colour-grading wedding photos or pretending I understood taxes.

But somewhere along the line I got curious.

Then mildly obsessed.

Then suddenly I'm sitting at midnight arguing with my computer because a single comma was in the wrong spot and now the entire universe has collapsed.

And honestly? It's been one of the best things I've done for my wedding business.

The Wedding Timeline That Does the Thinking For You

One of the biggest stress points for couples is figuring out the timeline.

What time should I start getting ready?

How long do family photos actually take?

When should we sneak away for sunset photos?

How late can Uncle Steve delay the ceremony before I lose my mind?

I got tired of giving everyone the same rough estimates, so I built my own timeline tool.

Couples punch in the details of their day and it works out:

  • When preparations should start

  • How long to allow for photos

  • Travel times

  • Buffers for the inevitable chaos

  • Most importantly... when sunset is on their wedding day

Because let's be honest, there's nothing worse than discovering sunset was at 5:12pm after you've scheduled speeches until 6.

Or trying to convince the sun to "just hang around for another twenty minutes".

I've tried. It's surprisingly stubborn.

The tool automatically estimates the best time to sneak away for those golden hour photos, so couples get that dreamy light without spending their entire reception staring anxiously at the sky.

You Can Get A Quote Without The Awkward Dance

I also built an online quote system.

Because as much as I love chatting to couples, I know what it's like shopping for wedding vendors.

You don't want to:

  • Fill out a form.

  • Wait three days.

  • Get an email saying, "Let's jump on a call!"

  • Discover you're approximately seventeen thousand dollars apart.

You just want to know:

"Can I afford this guy?"

Fair question.

So my website lets couples build their package and see pricing instantly.

No gatekeeping.

No mysterious "packages starting from..."

No me lurking in the background whispering, "But what is your budget?"

You can see the numbers before you've even said hello.

Then, if you like what you see, we can chat about making your wedding ridiculously fun.

Learning To Code Has Made Me A Better Photographer

The weird thing is, coding and weddings have a lot in common.

Both are about solving problems.

Both require a lot of patience.

And in both cases, one tiny mistake can result in everyone staring at you wondering why nothing is working.

Coding has taught me to think about the experience my couples have from the very first click on my website.

Can I save them time?

Can I remove stress?

Can I answer questions before they even ask them?

If I can automate the boring stuff, I get to spend more time doing the fun stuff: photographing people ugly crying during speeches, dodging confetti to the face, and trying to convince groomsmen that "just one normal photo" won't kill them.

So yes.

I still spend the occasional midnight yelling at my computer because I forgot a bracket somewhere.

But if it means my couples get a smoother, easier, less stressful wedding experience?

Worth it.

Mostly.

Ask me again the next time my code decides sunset is at 2:43am.
